The 100 Day Project: Weeks 4 & 5 + Clever Creative Ideas
As we roll into the heart of the 100 Days of Making project, Iโm noticing something really lovely: these little EmbellishBits are starting to feel less like random scraps and more like a collection. A meaningful, texture-filled, sometimes-wonky, always-wonderful collection.
While Iโve stepped back from the weekly vlog (thank you again for your understanding and kindness around that!), Iโm still fully immersed in the makingโand it feels so good to be creating without a lens between me and my work.
So today, Iโm sharing a peek at two weeksโ worth of piecesโfrom layered vintage photos and stitched scraps to rusty tones and soft neutrals. Iโve included all the textures, threads, and tiny stories stitched together on each one. Scroll down to see them all!
And if youโre wondering, โWhat do I do with these little gems once Iโve made them?โโdonโt worry, Iโve got you covered. โจ
Creative Check-In
During Weeks 4 and 5, I found myself shifting gears a littleโslowing down, playing more with layering and contrast, and letting the pieces guide me. Some days I started with a found photo, other days with a fabric scrap or a typed phrase that sparked something.
And on days when I couldnโt finish a whole piece, I still gave myself permission to prep, arrange, or even just sift through my stash. (Creative progress doesnโt always look like a finished product.)
Iโll be sharing more about this creative rhythm in upcoming posts, plus a few extra ideas for how to incorporate these bits into other projects like mail art, gift ideas, and more.
Are you doing The 100 Day Project too? Or maybe stitching your own little daily magic? Iโd love to hear what youโre making and how itโs going.
Until next timeโkeep making, keep experimenting, and remember: even the tiniest pieces have stories to tell. ๐
Week Four
Ways to Use Your EmbellishBits
These little mixed-media moments are more than just eye candy. Here are a few simple and creative ways to use themโespecially in your journals and handmade books:
Journal Covers
Stitch or adhere them onto plain or handmade journal covers to add texture, personality, and instant charm. Theyโre like an artistโs calling cardโright on the front.
Page Tuck-Ins
Use a fabric or paper hinge to attach an EmbellishBit so it flips open like a secret door. Hidden journaling? Yes, please.
Clip-On Bookmarks
Back them with cardstock or sturdy fabric, add a paperclip or eyelet, and voilร โa functional, decorative bookmark for your journal or planner.
Pocket Inserts
Sew or glue one onto a larger journal page and use it as a pocket to hold notes, tags, little treasures, or even more EmbellishBits (meta, I know).
Mini Story Cards
Glue your EmbellishBit to a journal card, tag, or shipping label, then write a quote, thought, or memory on the back. Slip it into a pocket or envelope for an interactive storytelling element.
Week Five
More Ideas for Journals & Books
If you're ready to go beyond the basics, here are a few extra ways to incorporate your EmbellishBits into your book-based projects:
Tip-In Pages
Add one as a mini tip-in! Simply hinge it on one edge with fabric or washi tape to create a flap that folds into your journal spread. It's a fun surprise that adds depth and dimension.
Fabric Tabs or Page Markers
Turn your EmbellishBit into a tactile page tabโperfect for marking your place or adding a soft, colorful accent that peeks out from the edge of your book.
Interactive Flip-Ups or Fold-Outs
Use them on flaps that open or fold out to reveal hidden notes, photos, or little messages. Bonus: they make your journal feel like a treasure map.
Stitched Labels or Section Titles
Layer on some stitched words or collage-style labels using your bits as backgroundโgreat for titling sections, highlighting dates, or marking important pages.
