BOLD ABSTRACT COLLAGE JOURNAL Demo
Perfect way to use art collage paper bits
When I am short of time and want to create in my art journals, the easiest way is to grab small pieces of art papers and just glue them down. I will go through my stash and pull out a pile of paper that look similar or just make me happy and I limit myself to using just those.
It can be a challenge to organize those papers, however. Currently, I organize my collage paper by type. The key, for me, is to keep it simple and not have too many categories. I also change things often to try new ways of organizing.
Here are the ones I am currently π using::
πPainted Papers
βοΈBlack and Whites
βοΈNeutrals: Letters & Book Pages
πΈTiny Scraps & Bits
πMagazines & Catalogs
πΊBrochures, Maps & Ephemera
I recently asked my Instagram followers: What is your favorite method for organizing your collage papers?
Here are some great ideas:
βI just changed my system from something similar to yours into color piles... But still a box for the scraps smaller then a postcard, the papers upright and roughly sorted by color. The bigger papers only sorted by color. So now all "sorts" of papers are mixed together.β -Anne
βI remember when I once read that you went through all of your collage papers and threw a bunch out that werenβt speaking to you. I couldnβt comprehend it at the time, but now it makes so much sense. Not everything we make or save is precious. Iβm going to start tossing entire pieces of art into the bin soon, maybe even entire journals or handmade books. Itβs okay to let go as part of the process of organizing.β -Wendy
βI keep mine in plastic sleeves in a very large three ring notebook by color. Easy for me just to flip through and choose what catches my fancy.β -Lisa
βI have scraps sorted by color in plastic page protectors. Bigger pieces are in those clam shell things from Michaelβs and Joanne Fabrics.β Barbara
βI organize with the same method- It stays in order for hmmm I would say a week or two then I just grab random bits until I say enough is enough and reorganize!β -Tina
βI do a ton of ROYGBIV so color works best for me.β -Leanne
βCurrently reorganizing EVERYTHING because we just put in a new floor in the studio, which serves me + my husband's oil painting & my daughter's crochet business. Not done yet, but currently:. πAltered (mostly painted) πscraps & bits. πspecialty (like Tyvek & foil) πstandard scrapbooking. πtissue & vellum πephemera (including book pages) πmagazines & catalogs πhandmade (I have lots; I'm in love with the texture)β -Sue
