Fearless Expressions...

I remember some time ago reading about Kelly Kilmer and her awesome journals in Somerset Studio.  I felt like I knew her and when I finally did  meet Kelly, she was just as I had imagined her to be.  While I read her feature, I thought about how cool it would be to see my journals one day in Somerset Studio also.  Today is the day!!  I hope you like the feature and the free Artists' Papers in the Jan./Feb. '08 issue!

Happy New Year!!!

Love Notes from Middle School...

While digging around in the attic to locate our Christmas decorations, I found a box tucked away in the back.  Much to my surprise it contained my old journals, old notes and other things I saved when I was in Middle School.  I spent an evening looking through everything, laughing most of the time at how silly I was back then.  The love notes I saved generated the most laughs.  I can't believe that I saved so many of them!  I selected a few to post here to share.  I hope they make you laugh, too!

The following note was written in pencil so it is hard to read.  Here is the exact translation:

"Dear Robin I am your secret admirer
you may know me will always love you.
Your hair is beiutiful and so are your eyes.
I think that when you look at people it makes
them feel good. When it's raining you make the room shine.
If the school had a beiuty contest I think you
would win by a landslide because you are so pretty.
If you were a buqey of flowers I would buy you  because
you are so pretty. I must go now good by my love xox"

Three Trees For Christmas...

Treeblog
Things don't always work out as planned.  Life certainly teaches us this!  Among other mishaps so far this holiday season is that of our quest to find a Christmas tree.  The first tree was a tall artificial tree that looked so beautiful in the store.  When we got it home, however, it was too big for the living room.  We moved furniture and tried the layout in many ways, but it just would not work!  Okay, so we take that one back and decide on a live tree instead of an artificial one.  After all, we can chunk it after and not store it in the attic, where it will end up dry rotting over time like our last one.

Enter, Lowe's Home Improvement Store and a rather lovely Frasier Fur.  It is perfect and not too big.  I especially like the tiny branches!  We follow protocol and cut off a portion of the bottom and lug it home.  Our old tree stand doesn't work very well and won't hold the tree up straight.  Oh, well.  I guess I can live with this!  We water and I decorate.  The next day I discover that the tree has not absorbed any of the water.

Fast forward eight days...you could say the tree is a lemon!  It is obviously dying and I have a Christmas party in my home in four days.  It won't make it that long and I'm afraid someone might knock it down anyway.   I strip the tree and we head out to get a new one.

Enter, Lowe's Home Improvement Store and a beautiful Frasier Fur.  We get a new tree at a discount and a new tree stand that is on sale as well.  Our tree looks lovelier than the last one, is standing up straight and has been drinking a ton of water.  I do believe it will make it even until Christmas!  Count it all joy!

Have a blessed day!

Through the Viewfinder...

Through the Viewfinder Photography is becoming quite popular.  The aged, nostalgic feel of the resulting photos are very desirable from a creative standpoint.

What is TTV?

"Through the Viewfinder photography is defined as taking a picture of any subject through the viewfinder of any camera with another camera."

This is defined by the  Flickr Group dedicated to its promotion.

The same results can be easily achieved by utilizing a few functions in Photoshop.  Click here for a step-by-step tutorial.

It's Time for the Holidays...

Blogorn

The other day it was 82 degrees and I was trying to get motivated to begin dragging the boxes of Christmas decorations from the attic.  I love it here in Florida, but it just doesn't feel like the holidays unless it is cold, or at least cooler.

Needless to say, the decorations are still in the attic. I decided to spend some time on-line browsing for some decorating ideas. I found some pretty cool things!  Enjoy!!!
