How to prepare for the 100 day project Challenge

What is The 100 Day Project?

The 100 Day Project is a free, global art project. Every year, thousands of people all around the world commit to 100 days of exploring their creativity. Anyone can join. The idea is simple: choose a project, do it every day for 100 days, and share your process on Instagram with the hashtag #The100DayProject and #DoThe100DayProject.

The 100 Day Project (9th Annual) starts February 13, 2022. It is also recommended that you create your own unique hashtag that is relevant to what you are doing and add it to all your posts on Instagram.

What is my theme in 2022?

This year will be my sixth year participating in The 100 Day Project. I decided I needed to plan early this year. Yes, I play and create in preparation. I don’t do well just showing up on day one and winging it. I was cleaning some drawers in my studio and found some book covers I had been collecting.

I’ve been collecting book covers for years and as I began to gather my stash together, I counted over 100 pieces. That had to be a sign, right?! So, my theme started to emerge.

The three key areas projects often cover include: play, practice or produce. This year I am going for produce. I know from past experience that things can evolve and change as I move through the project and that is always a fun thing to experience.

This year I will be doing #100daysofbookcoverartbyrobenmarie with the intention of creating 100 pieces of finished book cover art. I really think this will be fun, inspiring and will challenge me.

I look forward to sharing my journey with you!

There’s a Workbook and Tracker for That!

After five years of doing The 100 Day Project, I’ve learned that pre-planning has been essential to my success in keeping with the challenge. I’ve never written anything down, which is surprising because I journal. This year I got to thinking that a tracker would be a good way to keep up with where I am in my progress.

This quickly grew into a 65+ page workbook and tracker. The other thing I’ve never done is actually write down my experience and reflect on it at the end. What a valuable resource this will be when I am ready to do the project again.

The workbook and tracker includes five sections that focus on project details and tips, planning your project, tracking your progress, reflecting on the project and resources and inspiration.

I am often asked if I actually work through my ideas when I am planning? Yes, I actually take my ideas and play with them, seeing what I like and what I don’t like. Other ideas come to me while I do this and it gives me a feel for whether or not I like the idea and can actually execute it for 100 days.

I think it is really important to do this rather than showing up on day with a vague idea in mind and finding after five days that I’m not prepared, organized and really don’t much like my theme.
