Through the Viewfinder Photography is becoming quite popular.  The aged, nostalgic feel of the resulting photos are very desirable from a creative standpoint.

What is TTV?

"Through the Viewfinder photography is defined as taking a picture of any subject through the viewfinder of any camera with another camera."

This is defined by the  Flickr Group dedicated to its promotion.

The same results can be easily achieved by utilizing a few functions in Photoshop.  If you don't already have a frame, you can download some from here.  For the sample used in the instructions I used a frame by Nesster.  More of his work can be seen here.

Step-by-Step Instructions in Photoshop CS2

Picture_1
Begin by opening the frame and your image.  I chose a photography of a window.

Picture_2
With the frame image selected, click on "Image" in the menu bar and click on "Image Size" in order to make the frame the same size as your other image.

Picture_3
Since I plan to use this for web only, I made the Resolution 72.  Change the Width and Height to match the same as your other image.  Click OK.

Picture_4
Next, select the frame and while holding the mouse down on the image, drag it over to the other image and release the mouse.  Now, you will see the frame image in the box where your other image is located.

Picture_5
Now, select "Layer" in the menu bar and then "Layer Style."  Then select "Blending Options."

Picture_6
A new window will open now and select "Multiply" under "Blend Mode."  Click OK.

Picture_7
Your two images have now been layered to create the new image.  You can also play with other tools in Photo Shop such as filters, saturation or other photo adjustments to change the look of your image.  Finally, save your image using the "Save As" command under "File" in the menu bar so you don't overwrite the original image.
