I confess that I am a person of order and structure. I have always thought that I would have thrived in the military with its rules, expectations and order. I try to break from the comfort of this at times and do unexpected things and be adventurous, but at times I find that I am easily frustrated when things break from the norm or do not go as planned. I stopped to really consider this after I heard a quote this weekend while watching College Game Day on ESPN. I didn't catch the guy's name, but the commentators were talking about all the upsets so far this year in college football. The guy said, "If everything always went as planned, we'd all die of boredom." Well said!

This page was inspired by a quote that I read recently: "Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have in trying to change others." ~Unknown

I'm like you. I like order. For a time I thought I must not be a good artist because I like to plan things out! Recently I read about God's will and when things don't go like we want it to go, it is God's will and thank Him for it! Well, something happened this past weekend that upset my plans and there was nothing I could do about it. Actually all it meant was that I had to postpone what I was going to do yesterday to today, so I thanked God and did something else. I felt relaxed and happy about it!
BTW, Love your journal page!!!
Great food for thought! I can definitely relate; for most of my life, I've been a perfectionist. As a kid in school, I would tear up my papers rather than scribble out a mistake, and as a beginning scrapbooker, I would flip out if something wasn't cut or glued perfectly straight on a page. My discovery of mixed-media, mainly through the use of paint and ink in collage and art journaling, has really enabled me to accept and embrace the fact that when creating art there will be things that are beyond my control--some of which that don't make me particularly happy, as well as many which will be pure serendipity--and that it's all OK. That realization has been incredibly liberating for me, and I find that it makes the process of creating so much more fun and less pressured!
I really love the qoute "Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have in trying to change others." I can really apply that in my life right now.
I also want to thank you for puting up so many good workshops. I joined in last night. Ive tried so hard to do what you do, but never could get it like that. Last night I watched som videos, listened to you and I got it. Now I have several bakgrounds wainting at home. It was so much fun. Thank you!
I can see from your last several posts, that your style is going through a metamorphisis. I loved your work before, and I can't wait to see what you'll do next!
